Prisoner Of War Living History - Fort Delaware

Fort Delaware State Park in Delaware City will hold their annual Prisoner-Of-War (P.O.W.) living history weekend on Saturday and Sunday, August 11-12. The events begin each day at 10am.
During this special weekend, Fort Delaware will feature re-enactors and historians dressed in Civil War era clothing. Visitors will get a fascinating and unique look at what life was like at Fort Delaware during the 1860s and demonstrations will include prisoners being processed, prisoner mail call, and firing demonstrations with blank charges of 19th century weapons. Visitors can also take part in the Fort’s regular daily events.
Fort Delaware is a Civil War-era structure that was built to protect Philadelphia from an attack from the Delaware River. During the Civil War, it was used to house captured Confederate soldiers, Union criminals, and civilians arrested for disloyalty. From 1862 to 1865, 33,000 prisoners spent time at Fort Delaware.
Admission is $12 for adults, $7 for children, and $11 for seniors 62 and older as well as active military. Children under 2 get in free and admission includes the ferry ride from Delaware City. The ticket office and ferry launch is located at 45 Clinton Street, Delaware City and Fort Delaware is open 10am to 4:30pm Wednesdays through Sundays.
