Individual Arrested for Burglary and Attempted Burglary- Wilmington

Wilmington- The Delaware State Police have arrested 23-year-old Joseph A. Knapp of West Chester, PA, for burglary and attempted burglary.

On July 5, 2020, at approximately 8:43 p.m., troopers were dispatched to 9 to 5 Jewelry and Pawnshop located at 4714 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE, for an attempted burglary. The investigation revealed Knapp had thrown a large rock and kicked the front glass door causing damage to it in an attempt to gain entry to the business.

On the same date at approximately 12:00 p.m., Knapp entered an unsecured rear door to the closed business of Journey Tax located at 4716 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, and removed property without rendering payment for same.

Troopers searched the surrounding area after the attempted burglary to 9 to 5 Jewelry and Pawnshop and located Knapp walking westbound in the area of Kirkwood Highway and Delaware Park Boulevard. Knapp was taken him into custody without incident.

Knapp was transported to Delaware State Police Troop 6 and charged with the following crimes:

  • Attempted to Commit Burglary 3rd Degree (felony)
  • Possession of Burglar Tools (felony)
  • Criminal Mischief
  • Burglary 3rd Degree (felony)
  • Theft under $1500

Knapp was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court and released on a $6,500.00 unsecured bond.
