Troopers Arrest North Carolina Man On Multiple Counts of Reckless Endangering Newark

Newark- The Delaware State Police arrested 22 year-old Jesus Martinez on multiple counts of reckless endangering after he fired a gun inside of a hotel room.

The incident occurred on September 18, 2020, at approximately 12:34 a.m., when Troopers were dispatched to the Days Inn Hotel located at 900 Churchmans Road, Newark, for a firearm complaint. Upon arrival it was learned that Martinez had an accidental discharge of a firearm from inside of his hotel room. The single round fired from Matinez Glock 9mm handgun penetrated through the wall and into a neighboring room. Located in the next room was a 62 year-old female and two juveniles ages 7 and 13 from Newark. There were no reports of injury as a result of this incident.

Troopers recovered the legally owned weapon and placed it into evidence.

Martinez was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 6 where he was charged with the following:

  • Reckless Endanger First Degree (Felony) (3 counts)
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Criminal Mischief

Martinez was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on $11,000 unsecured bond.
