Traffic Stop Leads to Weapon and Drug Arrest- Newark

Newark- Delaware State Police arrested 55-year-old William Davis (no photograph available) of Newark, on weapon and drug charges following a traffic stop on Monday night.

On February 8, 2021, at approximately 8:20 p.m., a trooper working patrol on Churchmans Road, Newark, observed a green Honda Civic fail to use a turn signal in the area of Continental Drive. The trooper conducted a traffic stop and made contact with three subjects inside of the vehicle and an investigation ensued. During the investigation, the rear seat passenger, was later identified as William Davis. During contact with Davis, it was discovered he was concealing an unknown object. For officer safety reasons, Davis was removed from the vehicle and a criminal investigation was conducted. The trooper discovered a 9mm handgun was concealed on Davis’ person. He was taken into custody without incident. A search of the vehicle was conducted and approximately .21 grams of methamphetamine was located inside.

Davis was transported to Troop 6 and charged with the following crimes:

  • Possession of a Semiautomatic Weapon and Controlled Substance (Felony)
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (3 counts)

Davis was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #11 and released on $7,700 unsecured bond.

The other two individuals in the vehicle were not charged with any criminal charges and were released.
