Troopers Arrest Staten Island Man on Drug Charges Following Traffic Stop Newark

Newark– Delaware State Police have arrested Orion Brabham, 53, of Staten Island, NY, on felony drug charges following a traffic stop early Wednesday morning in Newark.

On December 29, 2021, at approximately 12:25 a.m., a trooper conducting proactive patrol in the area of southbound I-95 at the Biden Welcome Area, Newark, observed a green Dodge Challenger impeding traffic while traveling at a slow speed and make a lane change without signaling. The trooper initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the occupants identified as Orion Brabham (operator) and a 49-year-old front passenger.  The trooper immediately smelled an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. The suspects were detained and a subsequent vehicle search led to the discovery of approximately 1051.1 grams of cocaine, approximately 2438.2 grams of marijuana, and over $600 in suspected drug proceeds.

Both suspects were then transported to Troop 6. The operator, Brabham was charged with the following crimes:

  • Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance Tier 3 Quantity (Felony)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance Tier 3 Quantity (Felony)
  • Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance Tier 2 Quantity (Felony)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance Tier 2 Quantity (Felony)
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Drive Vehicle at a Slow Speed as to Impede the Flow of Traffic
  • Failure to Signal

Brabham was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #2 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Corrections Institution on $54,502 cash bond.

The front passenger was not charged.
