Troopers Arrest Man for Reckless Endangering Following Shooting Incident

The Delaware State Police arrested 68-year-old Dennis Elliot (no photograph available) of Wilmington, DE for reckless endangering and related charges following a shooting incident that occurred yesterday afternoon.

On January 11, 2023, at approximately 2:35 p.m., troopers responded to the area of First State Boulevard and West Newport Pike in reference to shots fired complaint.  Through investigative means, it was determined Elliot had a verbal altercation with a 44-year-old male acquaintance in a wooded area near the train tracks. During the argument, Elliot retrieved a shotgun and fired three shots in the direction of the victim.  The victim was not injured.

While at the scene, troopers took Elliott into custody without incident. Additionally, troopers located a shotgun, a .22 caliber rifle, and three spent shotgun casings near the scene.

Elliot was transported to Troop 6 where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Reckless Endangering Second Degree (Felony)
  • Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited and with a Prior Violent Felony Conviction (Felony) – 2 counts

Elliot was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #2 and released on a $17,000 unsecured bond.
