Traffic Stop Leads to Weapon Arrest

Delaware State Police have arrested 39-year-old Emory Wilson of Wilmington, Delaware, on weapon charges following a traffic stop that occurred yesterday afternoon in the New Castle area.

On June 18, 2023, at approximately 2:53 p.m., a trooper on patrol observed a gray Hyundai Sonata traveling northbound on New Castle Avenue commit multiple traffic violations. A traffic stop was initiated, and contact was made with the driver and front passenger of the vehicle. As the driver opened the glove box to obtain registration and insurance information, the trooper observed a handgun on top of the items in the glove box.  It was later determined that the front passenger, identified as Emory Wilson, was concealing the gun under his clothing just prior to the traffic stop and had stored it within his reach after the vehicle was pulled over. To ensure the safety of the trooper, the loaded handgun was taken out of Wilson’s reach and removed from the vehicle. After running a computer check, it was discovered that Wilson had outstanding capiases, did not possess a concealed carry permit, and the handgun was not stolen. Wilson was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 2, where he was charged with the following crime:

  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony)

Wilson was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court # 11 and released on a $5000 unsecured bail.
